I've got this voter's dilemma knocking around in my head these days. Simply put:
Conservatives bad, may likely win majority and oust Liberals
Liberals satisfactory, and I'd rather have them than the aforementioned
NDP adequate as well, although when I'm voting "from the heart" (swoon!) it's NDP. Don't trash the 'stache!
If this was only a federal matter, I'd be choosing between voting Liberal (that is, voting strategically) in order to have my say against the Conservatives or voting NDP, to do what's, you know, right.
All politics are local, however, and in Thornhill it gets personal.
My last post is my only interaction with Conservative candidate Anthony Reale so far*. Susan Kadis, our Liberal candidate, has done good for our community but Jordan says her son broke his brother's arm when they were little and she wouldn't let him get in trouble. And Simon Strolchek, our 23-year-old NDP-er is a former classmate of Jordan's and, as I hear from everyone who went to Westmount, a little bit crazy.
And to think I said I wouldn't blog about the election. And it's so hard not to! Didn't anyone notice how the makeup artists for the National Debate didn't do any candidates' ears? These lovely, warm, blushing complexions with white-pink ears. Reminded me of how I used to do foundation when I was 12.
The italian word for today is razza. It means race.
Notes:
*interaction with Conservative candidate Anthony Reale: I'm lying. He actually wrote back to that email with the following:
"I thank you for your constructive criticism and offer you the opportunity to work with me and compose our campaign literature. with respect to working for the riding of Thornhill I got involved in this campaign because I have lived and worked in the riding for 36 years and it is very important to me. As a federal candidate I am also obliged to consider my input with respect to National Issues. I would not presume to suggest whom you should support in this election and hope you will give your choice due consideration."
Which is pretty standup, I think, when some twit writes to you to criticize your grammar. However he's said nothing about what he's got in mind for my community. So forget him.
