"Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature." Tom Robbins

I've never written to a politician before. Why did I choose Mr. Anthony Reale, Conservative hopeful for Thornhill? Because he didn't get a study buddy to proofread his campaign flyer.

*****************
Mr. Reale,

I am a 23-year-old woman and, for the first time in my life, I am completely undecided as to whom I will be voting for this election*. Today at home I received two campaign flyers: one yours, and the other for your Liberal opponent Susan Kadis.

I have to make my choice based on these alone. While you've made the message and intentions of the Conservatives at the federal level quite clear, you've given me no reason to believe you will make any changes in my own community either in your flyer or on your website. How am I supposed to believe that it is Thornhill and no other riding that matters to you?

I have also counted in your flyer no less than fifteen grammatical errors, omissions and stylistic flaws**. In several parts it is difficult to read and to follow.

Mr. Reale, if you can't make the commitment to clean up my town's grammar then how can I trust you with the rest of it?

Sincerely,

M.B.

Notes:
*completely undecided: Yep, that's me, completely undecided. Like never before!

**errors, omissions and stylistic flaws: Fifteen errors in less than 200 words. I'm not a grammar saint by any means, but I know when it matters to run the spell-check. Sometimes even on this blog.
