I have no excuse. I can't even say, "hoo, things were so busy with all the Christmas preparations that I didn't have time to blog!" (Frankly, being Jewish at Christmastime is pretty good. You still get your Hanukkah, but it's so many days before Christmas that once the menorah's lit you can check out. That's what I did. I had checked out of the whole holiday season by December 15th.)
I love vacation time. All it takes is a couple of days of living right to render (or re-render) me the kid riding a scooter on the highway of life. I like it here. If I get only one New Year's Resolution this year, it will be to give myself one solid weekend a month like the days I've been having. Does this read right?
But since this is the time for lists, my resolutions are as follows:
-Learn U.S., Canadian, and European History (no doctorate theses; just basic understanding)
-Know Middle East history better than I already do
-Learn about different kinds of wine or cheese
Variations on a theme, no? My reasons are twofold: first, I haven't felt that brain-stimulating feeling for quite some time; second, I went to a total of four high schools, none of which really taught me anything about history (ours or anyone's). I learned everything I needed to know for my Grade 10 History exam from my dad, who recapped Canadian history to me on the way to school.
My final resolution hinges on my ability to get a ride to the Polar Bear Dip in Oakville. Strip down to your skivvies and swim in the ice water for disaster relief in South Asia. You collect pledges and things.
Happy New Year, Stumblers. I dig you all.
p.s. If anyone has any good book reccommendations for that learning thing, comment and lemme know.
